On the 20th of September 2017, BBC Radio News Day cut up with Cameroonian social entrepreneur Javnyuy Joybert to talk about one of his startups that is addressing the issue of poverty among women and youths in rural areas (villages). CAMMICS (Village Bank) is an innovative rural investment micro finance institution (FinTech Social Enterprise) using mobile technology to increase financial inclusiveness in rural areas among rural and semi-urban women and youths who are considered “unbanked” by formal financial institutions we are therefore transforming lives in rural areas “villages” by delivering access to financial services by leveraging on the mobile technology.
“2.5 billion People lack access to financial services and capital, the majority of them are women” Jim Jung Kim President World Bank. Most rural & Semi-urban women/youths lack skills to succeed in their business, also they lack access to finance to fund their business, they cannot access finance because of barriers like collateral, bank account, transaction history etc because of this they are poor because no money to start or expand their business.
CAMMICS has supported 700+ women and youths with business and vocational training, modern farming techniques, health education in 3 villages and helped 65 women start businesses or increase their farm outputs by providing them micro credit loans.
CAMMICS targets to provide 5000 micro credit loans to 5000 rural women/youths by 2025 and Javnyuy’s big dream is to build the McDonald’s of microfinance in villages across Central Africa Region
