Many people have not taken time to define “What it takes”

Many people from entrepreneurs, to career professionals etc may already know what they want, but some of these people have not really taken time to really determine what it takes to achieve what they want.

Let us take an entrepreneur for example;

An entrepreneur wants to increase paying customers by 30%. Does he or she know what it will take to achieve this increase in terms of manpower, financial resources, commitment to work, knowledge etc?

An entrepreneur wants to open 3 more branches for the business. Does he/she know what it will take in terms of legal and tax issues, additional man power, set up expenses and all that.

A career professional desires promotion at work to become a senior executive. Does he/she know exactly what that takes in terms of capabilities to develop, leadership abilities to develop, the kind of results to produce in his/her current position?

It is primary to be very clear about what we want and it is more critical to be clear about what it is going to take to engineer what you want.

Now that you want an international career, an international business, are you very clear about what it is going to take for you to become global? Are you willing to do what it takes?

Let me give you a short assignment. Write down that one big goal you want to achieve this year. At the bottom, write down 5 actions or so, that you must take to make that goal a reality, add specific dates when you will take those actions.
